Midweek Market Report

A sputtering market had many traders pointing to the holiday weekend by midday Tuesday. Urgency to find trading levels intensified at mills with short order files as some traders sought to tie up loose ends before Labor Day. Secondaries worked to lighten already skimpy inventories, and they had few immediate needs to run by their suppliers. Home center draws picked up modestly, although they remained well short of historical levels. Atlantic storms captured some attention, especially as dealers and distributors nursed thin inventories. Most new orders were truckloads filled by secondaries.
