This list was compiled with our best efforts to determine that the facilities are in fact shut down permanently. If any readers find that any of the mills are listed in error, or have been restarted, please contact Shawn Church at Random Lengths: shawn@rlpi.com; or 541-686-9925.

Several additions to Southern Pine lumber pricing highlight the latest round of changes to the Random Lengths price guides. Other changes will affect Eastern S-P-F boards, Douglas Fir veneer, and Coast dry 2x4.
Currently, prices of Southern Pine untreated timbers and boards represent production across the entire South. When changes take effect with the October 2 issue, prices of #2 4x4, 4x6, and 6x6 timbers (Page 8) will be reported in westside and eastside zones. In boards (Page 7), specified prices of SYP #2 1x4 and 1x6 also will be split into westside and eastside zones.
In both timbers and boards, the westside will cover mills in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. The eastside will include mills in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. Added to the footnote for Southern Pine eastside dimension prices (Page 5) will be an adjustable price range for the premium for mills in North Carolina and Virginia.
Some deletions from the Lumber Price Guide and the Panel Price Guide also are planned. On Page 7, prices of Eastern S-P-F green 1x3 and 1x4 boards, delivered to Boston and Toronto, will be eliminated because of a dearth of information to track trends. In the Panel Price Guide (Page 12), prices of Douglas Fir CD 1/6 veneer will be dropped for the same reason.
In Midweek, reported prices of dry Coast Hem-Fir and Douglas Fir Std&Btr 2x4 will be dropped and replaced with #2&Btr 2x4. This is driven by production trends that have shifted toward #2&Btr. Std&Btr 2x4 prices will be retained on Page 5 of the Random Lengths Lumber Price Guide.

The reporting of prices of Western Spruce-Pine-Fir 22- and 24-foot lengths in the Random Lengths Lumber Price Guide (page 6) will end with the issue of July 31. There will be no known production of these items in Western Canada following the planned indefinite shutdown of a mill in British Columbia in August.

On Page 5, in the framing lumber report, and in Midweek, prices for green Douglas Fir studs are changing from a Std&Btr grade designation to #2&Btr, reflecting the overall direction of green Fir stud producers. The change affects all 2x4 and 2x6 trims published in the price guides.
On Page 12 of the weekly report and in Midweek, a terminology change will take effect, labeling Southern Pine plywood sheathing as “rated sheathing,” as is the norm for the industry. CD exterior references will be eliminated for the product group. Also on the panel page, prices for Utility 1/10 and 1/8 veneer will be eliminated due to the dearth of this grade in today’s second-growth log yield.
